Unusual Wedding Venue Ideas

Where will you get married? How will you accommodate everybody? These are questions that will first hit you when you get engaged. Normally, a couple would want to wed or celebrate their wedding at places that

a. Mean the most to them
b. Has the biggest space
c. Is affordable
d. Is convenient

and the list goes on.

Your wedding does not have to be at a community centre, a hotel ballroom or a backyard. It could be anywhere else, as long as you use your imagination, and get the required permissions. Here are some unique wedding venue ideas, not completely unusual, just not your regular wedding venue:

1. Playground/Park

If you love how green and colourful the neighbourhood playground or park is, or how amazing your national park is, go on down to the city hall and make inquiries about the space. Ask them if it's possible to set up tents and decorations at the selected area and make sure you get a written (and approve) notice.

It may seem like a hassle, but if this is the place where you want to remember your special day at, then it will all pay off. Some areas/districts may ask you to pay a small fee, but it usually wouldn't cost much.

2. Boat

While this is becoming increasingly popular, especially for smaller weddings, you can explore boat weddings if you feel this is what you'll be most happy with. It's not easy if you don't have a boat to begin with, but if you visit the docks and make inquiries, you may be able to rent a boat for a day!

Be sure to check how many people the boat can handle. If you aren't going to have the boat sail off, it may be cheaper as you probably won't need a captain to steer the ship away. However, getting the boat off the dock and into the ocean MAY incur some extra cost.

3. Theme Park

How much more fun can your wedding get if you had it at a theme park?! Theme park weddings are exciting and your guests can dress up according to theme. Ie if it's Sunway Lagoon, your guests can come in board shorts and shirts, or beach wear and flip flops.

Or if it's in Disneyland, they can come as their favourite Disney character. If you want a cold Malaysian (or winter) wedding, head up to Genting to recce the theme park. You may be able to secure a booking for after peak hours! If not, you can have a small ceremony and hold the reception in one of the halls or hotels around Genting Highlands.

4. Pool

Since you're diving into marriage, why not dive into a pool while you're at it? Pool parties can be messy, but if planned well, it would be a wedding day of its kind. Most weddings are dry, and since it's your day (and if you like pools and swimming) why not throw a poolside wedding? You can have a buffet spread and rent a towel service for your guests.

Of course you'll need a sensible location to hold your party. ie someone's home, apartment, or swimming club. Some schools have pools but it's highly unlikely they would allow any outside activity on school grounds.

5. Car Park/Race Track

If you somehow love tarmac, or have a passion for driving, cars, and F1, you could speak to the management who runs the car park or race track and see if they would allow you to marry on their property. You may have to spend a lot on rental, but who knows, you just may be able to marry on the road!

6. Nightclub

You may have to pay a lot to rent a nightclub for your wedding if the ceremony or dinner is held in the evening/night, but if you plan for a daytime soiree you just may get a decent price.

Some clubs have been designed to accommodate big events and even weddings. You can sort out a value package with the club, regarding menu, decor, and setup, or you can select your own choice of vendors and rent the space at the club (it's usually cheaper to arrange a package with the club). One thing's for sure, your guests will have a great time partying!

Spacious restaurant-clubs such as Vanity Mansion provide a fabulous setting for a wedding

7. Jungle/Cave/Waterfall

The wilderness may look like a hideous and terrifying place to get married in, but if you know of a jungle or cave with a beautiful space, you could design an ethereal wedding and dress up in elven-wear. It's rather charming, but you'll have to be sure that the grounds are safe (no snakes, bats, quicksand, wild bears, monkeys) and that it doesn't rain (it can get really muddy, slippery and totally unpleasant).

For those who want a sheltered wedding venue, Allamanda in Phuket will suit your needs.

Jungles, caves and waterfalls make a picturesque backdrop for your nuptials. However, you probably won't be able to throw a wedding reception for 200 people. Of course if you'll have to hike into the jungle, you may just want to keep your team small.

8. Underwater

Although you can't have an underwater wedding reception, you can get married underwater! Well, that's if you find someone who's willing to marry you and your fiance under the sea!

You don't have to dive (although that would be ideal!), but just a snorkeling stint would suffice. After your nuptials, you can proceed to your beach wedding reception! It's a crazy idea, but it'll definitely be something you'll remember for a lifetime.

9. Cinema/Theater

What better way to get married than on-stage?! Your wedding nuptials can be performed in front of a cinema of guests, who can be served with popcorn while they watch you get married.

As for the reception, you could have hotdogs, soft drinks and other cinema snacks after your nuptials, or proceed to a different location for your reception. While cinemas don't usually have a big space for receptions, theaters MAY have space depending on the size of their stage, hall and surrounding area.
